What are the benefits of individual counseling?
Individual counseling provides you with the opportunity talk about your problems with a licensed professional. This simple process has numerous benefits:

Is counseling confidential?
Yes, counseling is completely confidential. Confidentiality is your most important right as a client. Counselors at Life Stage Counseling maintain the strictest confidentiality in accordance with the North Carolina legal code and the ethical standards of the counseling profession. Release of your information or records outside of Life Stage Counseling is not permitted without your written authorization. Thus, there are only three legal conditions that permit us to break our confidentiality with you:

What can I expect in my first counseling session?
You should not expect treatment or solutions for your problems in the first counseling session. Rather, you should expect your counselor to welcome you and provide you with information about Life Stage Counseling. Next, they will ask you a wide range of questions to better understand your reasons for seeking counseling and your personal, family, educational, legal, and medical background. Your first session will end with the scheduling of a follow-up session where your counselor will offer you their professional perspective on your problems and a treatment or solution framework to help you work through them.

How does the counseling process work?
Counseling requires trust and respect. During the first few sessions, you and your counselor will get to know one another as you discuss your problem(s). As your relationship grows, and your counselor gets to know you, they will work with you to develop treatments or solutions to address your problems. Counseling is most effective when you and your counselor work together. Counseling works best when you come to your sessions on time, complete any tasks you agree to, and do your best to talk about the concerns, behaviors, thoughts, and feelings that are bothering you. Although counseling usually results in positive changes in mood, behavior, and relationships, it may also lead to unanticipated and unwanted changes. If anything about your counseling troubles or disappoints you, you are strongly encouraged to talk about that in your sessions with your counselor so that they can address your concerns.

What are the benefits of joining a group?
Groups have many benefits. Here are a few of the important ones.
top ^
Are groups confidential?
It is important to understand that the information you share in a group is not completely confidential. Unlike the professional(s) leading your group, who are legally required to protect your information, other group members are not bound by confidentiality laws. Therefore, confidentiality cannot be guaranteed in a group setting. However, the leader(s) are required to inform all group members of the need for confidentiality and the potential consequences of breaching confidentiality.

What can I expect at my first group meeting?
Groups are led by licensed professionals and attended by four to twelve members. Meetings are sixty to ninety minutes in duration.
The first time you attend a group meeting, you will be welcomed by the group facilitator. They will ask you to sign a roster of attendance and provide you with instructions for participation. Your participation to the group discussion is voluntary. You can contribute as little or as much as makes you comfortable.

When and were does my group meet?
